The peak QTL region maps to both the Pachón cavefish and surface fish genomes. Six genetic markers on linkage group 1 (86–95 cM) were anchored to four Pachón cavefish genome (AstMex102) scaffolds (KB871706, KB871620, KB871713, and KB871833). These four cavefish genome scaffolds map to an 8 Mb region on Astyanax surface fish chromosome 7 (Table S3). Within this 8 Mb region on Chr. 7 resides 82 annotated genes. Three of the genetic markers map to another cavefish genome scaffold (KB871620) and to a ~ 1 Mb region on Chr. 7 with 24 annotated genes
